Family Strengthening Services : Introduction

Family Strengthening Services (FSS) is the practical and direct Family Support Service of Candlelighters International. FSS provides a variety of informational and practical support services to individuals. The sole aim of FSS is to fortify people with the proper principles, understanding and ability to live as members of a nuclear family; while building biblically grounded and resilient homes. FSS strives to help people to “Bring Jesus home to their Families.”

The Nuclear Family as has been known since the creation of man is currently being attacked in an unprecedented fashion. From a biblical perspective, the Family is the central or focal unit of society through which God acts in the lives of men and women; granting them custodianship over their children who will later do the same on their own families. Generation after generations, God’s sole purpose of the family is to use it in radiating forth His glory unto the earth realm as it is in heaven. This basic natural understanding of the family is now seen as problematic within our contemporary societies and significantly under severe attack. As a consequence of such attacks and the rapid breakdown of the nuclear family, coupled with the constant rejection of biblical family values, humanity is experiencing all kinds of moral decadence and their resulting wicket fruits.

The sad truth is that the church has not been shielded from this menace. The resulting wicket fruits have even infested churches and their members, rendering them almost ineffective in bringing about transformational changes in their communities. As an example, shocking cases of divorce are constantly being recorded within the church communities, in very high numbers; and tragically amongst persons or couples who have been in the faith for quite a long time.

Something needs to be done fast, if we hope to retain any semblance of Christian values for the Families in the immediate and distant future. This is what drives us to sound the alarm. Candlelighters International, through the Family Strengthening Services, is initiating a Call-to-Action, as well as facilitating (with other partners) the creation of new and innovative avenues to defend and strengthen the family.
